Tweetports Screen grabEO Mediaworks is proud to announce the launch of Tweetports for Joomla! 1.5.

Tweetports is a highly interactive Twiiter and Google Maps combination that goes much farther than just a mashup.  Tweetports is a Joomla! component that provides a tweet follow system integrated with geo-targetting on interactive Google maps. Using geo-enabled twitter clients on popular smart phones such as iPhone, Blackberry, Palm, and Droid each tweet will be displayed at the geo-specific location and its map marker when clicked will display the contents of the tweet.

Tweetmaps doesn't stop there, because not all users have smartphone technology EO created a hashtag methodology to geo-target tweets for non-enabled phones and software based clients.  Hashtags are a method created by the Twitter community to identify related tweets from multiple sources and are represented by using the # cobined with a subject.  EO leverages this approach to identify geographic locations by building a relationship between a geogrphic location (address) and a hashtag.  For example, Grand Rapids, MI and #eogrrapids are associated through a Tweetports dialog and added to the database, these hashtag addresses are then geo-located using Google and their longitude and latitude coordinates are saved.

When tweets are made for a specific location using this hashtag, #eogrrapids, a marker is placed at its lon/lat coordinate on the Google map.  Multiple tweets made to this location are distributed within a specified radius, defined when setting up the component, so that each marker can be easilty interacted without the markers being layered directly on top of each other.

Tweetports also provides interfaces to allow registered users to create defined geographic searchs specifying a anchor address location and a selection of system deinfed radius.  Searches made with these parameters will pull tweets from all accounts that are being followed within the radius specified, this includes both geo-targetted and #hashtag locations.
